Fun Activities And Camps For Fall School Break, October 7-11th

The "Washoe County School District 2019-2020 School Year," has fall break 2019 coming up October 7th - 11th. You still have time to plan some fun activities for the little ones. Art, museums, movies, theater, and more.

Activities for Kids and Families at the Washoe County Library (Free)

You'll find fun activities at your local library branch during fall break, October 7 to 11. The Washoe County Library System offers many free events, activities, and presentations. Children of all ages, families, and adults will find something of interest at every library branch in Washoe County. A couple of examples are "Code Crew Fall Break: Lego Mindstorms" on October 8 at Incline Village Library and "Fall Break Art Camp" on October 8 at Sierra View Library.

The Reno area offers five multi-screen theaters, a low-cost cinema at the Grand Sierra Resort, feature films and star shows at the Fleischmann Planetarium, and in Sparks, an IMAX theater and one of the few real-live drive-in theaters in America still showing movies.

Great Basin Naturalists at Galena Fall Exploration Camp ($)

October 7 - 11, 2019. Camps provide outdoor experiences emphasizing environmental science and physical activity for kids ages 8 to 12. Camp sessions are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with early drop-off and late pick-up available. Fee is $195 for the week. Scholarships available. You can register online or by calling (775) 849-4948. Discovery Museum

Fall Break Camp Discovery at The Discovery Museum ($$)

October 7 - 11, 2019. The Discovery Museum in Reno is hosting a set of fall break camps. The number of kids is limited, so sign up as soon as you can if you want your child to attend. Online registration is available at the Camp Discovery web page. The information phone number is (775) 786-1000. Each camp goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of fall break. The cost is $210 for members, $235 for non-members. There are camps for different age groups, from 1st through 4th grade - Ultimate Engineers (grades 1 - 2) and Robot Revolution (grades 3 - 4). Fall Creativity Camps at Arts for All Nevada ($)

October 7 - 11, 2019, ages 6 to 10. Lake Mansion, 250 Court Street and Arlington Avenue in Reno. You can choose between a morning session (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or afternoon session (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Kids (ages 6 to 10) get creative through instruction in both the Visual Arts and Creative Moving/Drama. $125 for all 5 days. (775) 826-6100 x2#.

Sparks Parks & Rec Fall Break Programs ($)

October 7 - 11, 2019. Fall break programs available for kids in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Active games, arts and crafts, board games, free play, swimming, skating, various field trips and group activities are planned for this full-day program. Daily sessions are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contact Sparks Parks & Recreation at (775) 353-2376. Full week is $156 or $130 resident discount. Drop-in is $48 or $40 resident discount per day.

New for 2019 is a program just for 4th and 5th grade students. It features age appropriate activities such as pool, ping pong, foosball, arts and crafts, active games, fieldtrips and more. Daily sessions are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Full week is $156 or $130 resident discount. Drop-in is $48 or $40 resident discount per day.

Vacation Station from Reno Parks & Rec ($)

October 7 - 11, 2019. During fall break, the City of Reno Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is presenting Vacation Station for kids ages 6 to 12.5. These camps will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Activities will include sports, games, reading, field trips, and arts and crafts. The fee is $105 for the week or $30 a day.

Fall Break at Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows ($)

October 7 - 11, 2019. The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is having fall break activities at these club locations - Donald W. Reynolds Facility, Neil Road and Lemmon Valley, William N. Pennington Facility, and Donald L. Carano Youth Center. Each location features different activities and field trips. The registration fee is $40, with optional field trips costing extra. Children must be members of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows in order to attend the Fall Break Program.

Fall Break Camps at the Nevada Museum of Art ($)

Fall Break Clay Camp - October 7 - 11, 2019. For kids ages 7 to 12. Instruction will include basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. Children will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class. All works will be fired in the Museum's kiln. Snack and materials are included. Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The cost is $185, $165 for Museum members.

Fall Break: Art Camp for Kids - October 7 - 11, 2019. For kids ages 7 to 12. Children will have fun exploring a variety of art mediums in this fun and interactive camp. Over this five-day camp, participants will have the opportunity to hand-build clay sculptures, paint mini-masterpieces and sketch in the Museum galleries. A daily snack and all materials are included with registration. 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The cost is $185, $165 for Museum members.

Fall Break Young Artist Series: Hand Building and Wheel Throwing Techniques - October 7 - 11, 2019. For kids ages 11 - 16. Instruction will include basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. KIDS University Fall Break Camps ($$)

October 7 - 11, 2019. There will be two age groups at this camp titled "KIDS U Explores the University." There will be a session for grades 2 - 4 and 5 - 8, both held on the UNR campus at the Continuing Education Building. These camps will explore the college experience through interactive tours with many of the colleges and fun, hands-on activities. Sessions are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free before and after care available. The cost is $275 for the week and you can register online.

Mars Exploration Camp at Sierra Nevada Journeys

October 7 - 9, 2019. Join the Desert Research Institute (DRI) for a three-day, two-night voyage to Mars. This camp is FREE to attend. Grizzly Creek Ranch will be our mission control center as we journey through a series of activities transporting us from Earth to the Red Planet. Through hands-on exploration, participants will explore the many factors NASA scientists and engineers have to consider when planning human missions to Mars. For 6th to 8th grade students. ACTOUT 2019 Fall Camp from Reno Little Theater ($)

October 7 - 11, 2019, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. At "The Great Pumpkin Patch Fall Camp," kids 6 to 12 will get a chance to explore the retelling of this beloved Halloween story. With music from Snoopy the musical and fun ghostly dancing thrown in, it's sure to be a spooky good time. Visit the website for more information and to register online. Super STEAM Hero Camp from Challenge Island ($$)

October 7 - 11, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. You and your tribe will channel your extraordinary powers into a universe of challenges inspired by your favorite Super STEAM Hero and SHero characters. This camp promises to be a Super-Duper and unforgettable adventure for every boy and girl. For kids ages 5 to 12. Cost is $230, with before and after care available for an additional fee. Fall Break Full Play Camp from KidScape Productions

October 7 - 11, 2019. Full play "The Culmination of Human Achievement" camp. This camp ends with a free community performance on October 11. Kids will work on this story at Damonte Ranch High School.
